Please keep going with WinROTTGL. It's the best project I've seen and the only ROTT source port!!!

It looks good, but theres alot of bugs, also whats up with the super bullets? you shot someone in the arm and the arm goes bouncing around the room, taradino cassat looks nothing like the original, he looks like Frederik Schreiber (ceo of interceptor), also theres alot of perfomance bugs, it just need some fixes.

Hey guys, it's me again. I have now played around with both WinRottGL and also Interceptor Entertainments ROTT.

I think I don't have to say how much I love WinRottGL, so let's just get to the modern stuff.

All in all, I would say it's a pretty damn cool reboot. Ingame running speed is ridiculously fast, just like in the old games. Lots and lots of stuff that we all knew from the 90s ROTT are there again and work in the exact same way. I haven't gotten to the dog mode yet, but I've seen shrooms mode, elasto mode, god mode and the bazooka, heatseeker, split missile, flamewall and firebomb.

It seems the Xylophone is gone, but there are quite a few other original-style sound effects, like the ones on the quit screens (cyanide gas and all).

Also, while the blood looks a bit weird, there are some original effects like the eyeballs flying into your face. Also people begging you not to shoot them etc.

So I think it's better than I expected. Quite true to the original. Only things that I have spotted so far that clearly aren't are: Glass is not really breaking when shot (come on, it was possible in 1994!) and there are no save games, just checkpoints. Could have something to to with the Unreal Engine 3 maybe.

I have been playing the original since it was released, and used Birger's ports from 2006 onwards, I have to say that using the WinRott GL to play ROTT is far more satisfying than playing the Throwback Pack on Steam.

The remake is definitely in the right spirit, is good looking in a grungy sort of way, as in the setting is grimy like a private millitia, or banana republic's millitary facility may be. The key players are there,, the pleading soldier, the fast one who steals your weapons "Gimme that", the Overpatrol with the nets. All in all I am happy with it, and am not disappointed as I was with the dire console lash up that is Duke Nukem Forever.

Lee Jackson's soundtrack has been re-imaged and works well, as does the original.

One minor gripe, the awful British accent used for IP Freely, it is a Hollywood interpretation, of a snotty git, and reminds me Arnold Rimmer from Red Dwarf, even the Manchester Accent used for the character in Deus Ex The Nameless Mod would suit Freely better. I would have liked a way to play the game away from Steam, but heigh ho, I still have the original I bought back in the day almost 20 years ago, and Birger's excellent ports to play it. Will I play the original still as well.. Damn Straight.

I have just preordered the ROTT remake on Steam, where I also got that "Throwback Pack" with the original ROTT! Now I loved all those ports like the Doomsday Engine for Doom/Heretic/Hexen, eDuke32, DXX-Rebirth (Descent), DarkXL (Dark Forces) and so on.

I thought no such thing existed for the original Rise of the Triad?! I remember searching for something like it a few years back, to no avail. And now I find this! I can't wait until I get home today, I totally need to try out your OpenGL port!! :)

No, as far as I know, there is not planned a "Return of the ROTT" version for PS3 or XBOX360

I totally cannot wait for this!!!:O Im an avid ROTT fan and my glass is raised for this project to succeed:)! its definatly worth a remake so to speak and Winrott and GLRott have givin us a good shot at being the first:D

The trailer actually looked pretty cool... I've been waiting on a sequel to ROTT since like 1997, I had actually given up hope until DNF finally rolled out then I figured it was a matter of time. ROTT was one of my favorite games growing up, right up there with and maybe even surpassing DOOM and Duke3d just for how damn unique it was. I REALLY REALLY hope they don't screw this up.

I think that some people are wearing their rose tinted glasses a bit too often. I enjoyed ROTT, but even I had my issues with it, most of which involve weapon balance (MP40) and level design (some levels just got tedious and frustrating). Looking at this remake, while I will admit, is a quite flashy, this looks like the kind of commercial release that ROTT really needed. Sure, there's Return of the Triad, which is an excellent set of levels, but if we really want to show off ROTT to the world, this might just be the way to go. I think Frederick and his team (which, as he mentioned, includes the Return of the Triad team) are just the kind of people who care enough about the ROTT name that they would never let it succumb to casualized FPS mechanics that we all know and hate (regenerating health, INCREDIBLY linear level design, etc.) The only issue I have with the game right now is that it just seems a bit too flashy. This just seems like something to help draw in more people, which is a good thing, but I hope that the final product ends up a little less flashy. FLASHY.

The entire Return of the Triad team is a core part of Rise of the Triad (2012).

There is a big difference between "Fan projects" (Daikatana Remake), and commercial development. "Gears of Triad" makes no sense. Those 2 titles are as far apart genrewise as you can almost get. They only have 2 things in common. Shooting things, and both using the Unreal Engine 3.

The Daikatana Remake project was shut down due to next to no interest in the game.

Althea´s fears arent unfounded. Who shut down the daikatana remake? John Romero? I think this "remake" is nothing but gears of triad. I think return of the triad is the real ROTT remake.

Althea - Gearbox Software shut down the Reloaded Project.

Even though Interceptor loved working on it, there is not much we can do about it.

That IP is owned by Gearbox and they have final saying in what happening with Reloaded.

As the CEO of Interceptor Entertainment and Game Director on Rise of the Triad, I would recommend all of you to watch the Rise of the Triad Panel.

its a one-hour panel about the Reboot, how closely it ties to the original, how we analyzed and conceptialized everything from the original, and how much effort that went into making sure that this title will be a true ROTT Sequel/Reboot.

well that new Rise of triad look like a wolfeinstein 2000 sequel, in a way the original Rott supposed to be a wolf3d sequel... ROTT the original was a huge game to me back in the 90s, very abstracts scenarios but the ambient it reflected was unique, now this new game try to refresents that in a realistic way (almost what i see in preview), I would like to see ROTT like a continuation were it was left in 90s, like the new return of triad... but gigantic eyecandy and conserving the abstract thing of scenarios and a nice plot, a lot of enemies on screen, a FUN...but without all the sh%t loaded seen in moderns FPS... just start to play in a nonsense bloody-killing of enemies YEAH!!!

Hello,

I have been a fan of rise of the triad since I was fourteen or so. First of all thanks to those two guys who made it possible for the fans to play this wonderfull classic under the new operaing systems. The new highres textures are also very nice.

Relying to the Rott-Remake, it seems to me that it has not so much in common with the old Rise of the Triad: The music is too much "Metal" and the graphics are too dark. For now I don't expect much more than a standard shooter having only the name in common with the original one.
